A Sunburnt Country by Kylie Daniel
Inspired by the Dorothy Mackellar's "My Country".
As one of the country's most popular and iconic poems laments, Australia is a "sunburnt country" of "droughts and flooding rains". Dorothea Mackellar's My Country endures with its "wide brown land" evoking "flood and fire and famine" and that "pitiless blue sky". ... The droughts will likely get harder as rainfall shifts. This abstract landscape shows the burnt trees and desolate space. This mixed media painting is the 4th artwork in the series "Landscapes". I've recreated the abstract landscapes I love so much, that can be seen in all 3 previous pieces.
The strong blacks and browns glaze the canvas to show depth and contrast.
This is the final piece to the set.
I love this series, the beauty, the texture, the format and finally, the large space in the world we know as, Australia.
